STEEL BRIDGE SONGFEST
About

About Citizens for Our Bridge:

We started as a grassroots group, called the S.O.B.'s (Save Our Bridge), about 11 years ago, organized to save the historic Michigan Street Bridge from the scheduled wrecking ball. Around 2005, we grew up and into the Citizens for Our Bridge, inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit to organize and manage a long-term plan to raising public awareness and money for needed repairs, maintenance and eventually the complete restoration of the now saved bridge that are not covered by traditional federal or state financing.

To build public awareness, we hold a week-long celebration every June at which songwriters create music and donate their performances and songs to raise funds for the bridge. In 2006, we produced our first CD, "Steel Bridge Songs: Vol.1" , since then we have completed Vols.2, 3, and 4. Proceeds from the sale of these CD's and event support the first-of-its-kind Bridge fund held by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Musicians from across the United States including Jackson Browne, Jane Wiedlin (The Go-Go's) and hundreds of others have come to this community, written their songs, and dedicated their efforts to preserving the historic bridge.
