APRIL 15TH, 2011
OFFICAL ANNOUNCEMENT from pat mAcdonald June 9-12, 2011 Steel Bridge All-star Review, Pub Crawl, 100+ Bands, All-ages Shows, Open Mics, Surprise Performances... A dozen venues in Downtown Sturgeon Bay. $20 pass includes everything. www.steelbridgesongfest.org 2011 is a year of fewer promises, yet promises to be a most memorable year for Steel Bridge! This time, due to conditions beyond our control, we narrow our focus to the path of least resistance: We WILL bring the songwriters. We WILL fill the bars and restaurants with great original music. We WILL add yet another volume to the Steel Bridge Songs collection, and we WILL make last year's work (Vol. 6) available to the public. We WILL offer free events, cheap passes for everything else, and surprise happenings for those who are paying attention. The one thing we are not able to offer this year (due to insufficient funding and other obstacles) is Saturday's "Take It To The Bridge" free all-day concert by the waterside. We've been SO lucky in the past - a benevolent sun and insubstantial clouds have enabled us to ALMOST break even - but, with our current level of community support, we simply can't afford (again) to risk it all on a day of sunshine. For those who enjoy music in the great outdoors, we'll be celebrating the Grand Opening of the new Martin Park Band Shell Thursday and Friday Evening 7-10. FOR FULL STORY, CLICK HERE If all goes well, we'll be able to bring Saturday's street fest back in 2012, but for this year, we're shifting our focus to things we KNOW we can deliver. Without a doubt, the reduced risk and work load enables our musicians and volunteers to focus on the evening and nighttime events, which have proven to be the most popular part of Steel Bridge, drawing the greatest number of participants. These will greatly benefit from a closer attention to detail, reaching higher levels of artistry and fun this year. We hope that those who are happy with these changes will lend even greater support than in years past. And we trust that those of us who will miss the street fest will also give their all, so that we can afford to bring it back next year. A RECORD NUMBER of songwriters and bands have offered to participate this year and we hate to discourage talent from gracing our town, but the Holiday Music Motel is all booked up with repeaters and we're strapped for extra accommodations. So anyone who is willing to donate a room, a bed, a couch, or a floor, please let us know. It's good for a free pass and our undying love :) We also need to expand membership in our "HUNDRED HOURS CLUB" This is our core group of volunteers who are willing to donate at least 100 hours of volunteer time. Some of us contribute MANY hundreds of hours but such excessive, obsessive behavior is not required for membership - just one measly HUNDRED HOURS gets you through the door and into the core of our little group of philanthropic friends and fanatics. (One hundred hours really isn't all that much - think 4 hours a day, 5 days a week for 5 weeks. Or 2 and a half 40-hour weeks.) Benefits include free coffee, occasional snacks, and a sense of belonging.
